Melbourne, AustraliaSwinburne University of Technology has secured a significant grant of $436,000 from the Australian Research Council to revolutionize the construction industry with 3D-printed earth homes.

In collaboration with industry partner Luyten 3D,Swinburne researchers will develop a new, standardized multi-feed extrusion technique for 3D printing with engineered earth mixtures. This innovative approach aims to address the critical demand for affordable and sustainable housing, particularly in regional and remote areas of Australia.

By leveraging cross-disciplinary expertise from architecture, engineering, and Indigenous studies, Swinburne is spearheading a sustainable future for construction. This project aligns with the university's commitment to social impact and environmental responsibility.

Preserving Digital Heritage

In another significant development, Swinburne University has been awarded $544,947 to conserve digital artifacts and make them accessible for research purposes. Led by Professor Melanie Swalwell, this project will extend the reach of the Australian Emulation Network, ensuring that valuable digital cultural heritage is preserved for future generations.

By emulating digital artifacts, researchers can continue to study and learn from these resources, advancing knowledge in media arts, design, and architecture. This initiative underscores Swinburne's dedication to preserving cultural heritage and fostering innovation in digital technologies.
