Washington, D.C. (October 25, 2024) – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has announced a $16.6 million investment in eight states to accelerate the adoption of digital construction technologies in transportation projects. This funding, allocated under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aims to modernize transportation infrastructure delivery and improve project efficiency.

The selected states will receive funding to implement various digital initiatives, including:

  • Arizona: Developing and piloting modern digital delivery practices.
  • Maine: Piloting electronic project delivery and improving data collection.
  • Maryland and Montgomery County: Using cloud-based software to expedite project development and reduce paper usage.
  • New Hampshire: Establishing digital workflows and data standards to improve information management.
  • New Mexico: Developing a comprehensive digital construction management plan.
  • New York: Utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) to integrate subsurface roadway asset information.
  • Ohio: Employing BIM in all project phases to streamline workflows and enhance information sharing.
  • Oregon: Creating a standardized information library for transportation assets.
