A BIM model usually tells a project team what is supposed to be built. But what if the same model could also help determine whether the finished work actually matches the design?

That idea is gaining attention through research into Scan-vs-BIM, a workflow that combines 3D scanning with BIM data to compare real construction against the intended digital design.

Instead of relying entirely on conventional measurements and isolated site checks, teams can capture the built environment and compare it against the geometry contained in the BIM model.
