India's Central Electricity Authority has proposed another update to the technical standards governing the construction of electric plants and electric lines, opening the draft regulations for public comments.

The proposed amendment covers technical requirements for electrical infrastructure and forms part of the country's continuing effort to update construction and engineering standards for the power sector. Comments on the draft are being invited until 4 October 2026.

Why Standards Matter

Power infrastructure projects involve some of the most technically demanding construction environments in the AEC sector.

Generation facilities, transmission systems and associated electrical infrastructure have to meet detailed requirements covering safety, engineering performance and reliability.

Changes to technical standards can therefore affect how future projects are designed, specified and constructed.

Beyond Buildings

The development also highlights how broad the AEC industry really is.

While BIM discussions often focus on buildings, the same principles of coordinated design and structured information are increasingly relevant to energy infrastructure, where electrical, civil, structural and mechanical systems have to work together.
