Hong Kong Construction Industry Council Takes BIM Toward Drawing-Free Construction

What would construction look like if teams could rely less on traditional drawings and work directly from coordinated digital models?
That question is at the centre of a Construction Industry Council (CIC) Hong Kong webinar held on 5 August 2026, titled “Enabling End-to-End Model-Based, Drawing-Free Construction.”
The subject represents an important shift in BIM thinking. For years, many projects have used BIM primarily as a modelling and coordination tool while conventional drawings remained the formal basis for construction.
A model-based approach challenges that workflow by putting digital project information closer to the centre of actual construction activities.
Why This Is Important
Moving toward drawing-free construction isn't simply about removing paper. It requires reliable models, clear information standards, suitable approval processes, accessible digital tools and confidence that everyone on site is working from the same information.
That makes the idea much bigger than a software upgrade.
It points toward a construction environment where the digital model becomes an active project delivery resource, rather than something created alongside traditional documentation.
