Dublin MetroLink Moves Into a Major Delivery Phase

Ireland's first metro railway is moving closer to construction, with an AECOM and Jacobs joint venture appointed as the Program Delivery Partner for MetroLink.

The programme will create a high-capacity rail connection between North County Dublin, Dublin Airport and Dublin city centre, forming one of Ireland's largest transport infrastructure investments. The delivery partnership will support procurement, programme management, governance and risk management for the project.

A Metro Designed for a Growing City

MetroLink is intended to significantly improve connectivity across Dublin while supporting future population and economic growth.

The project involves much more than the railway itself. Large metro programmes require coordination across stations, tunnels, track systems, signalling, power, passenger facilities and surrounding infrastructure.

That makes programme-level coordination particularly important.

With multiple organisations involved, managing interfaces between different packages becomes one of the biggest challenges.

Why It Matters

Large metro projects provide a useful picture of where the AEC industry is heading: towards large multidisciplinary programmes where design, procurement, construction and risk management have to work as one system.

BIM Cafe Insight: A metro project isn't just about building a railway. It's about making hundreds of engineering decisions work together as one connected system.
