Course Overview

The Integrated Electrical Design & BIM Professional Program combines Electrical Design Engineering with Electrical BIM Modelling to prepare students for modern building services projects.

Learn to design electrical systems, create intelligent BIM models, coordinate multidisciplinary projects, and deliver construction-ready documentation using industry-standard software and real-world international project workflows.

This integrated approach bridges engineering design with BIM execution, making graduates industry-ready from concept to project delivery.

Program Structure

The programme is delivered in two connected stages that take you from electrical design principles through to coordinated BIM delivery.

  • AutoCAD — interface, drawing and modify tools, layers, annotations & dimensions, blocks, layouts, title blocks and shop drawings
  • Introduction to Electrical Building Services — role of the Electrical Design Engineer, electrical systems in buildings, design workflow, electrical fundamentals, NEC / IEC codes and standards
  • Electrical Load Calculations & Design — connected and demand load, demand & diversity factors, load schedules, panel schedules, load balancing, voltage drop, cable sizing, fault level calculation, power factor correction
  • Lighting System Design — lighting fundamentals and standards, fixture selection, indoor, landscape and emergency lighting, exit signage, lux level requirements, DIALux evo
  • Wiring, Cable & Raceway Design — wiring methods and regulations, cable selection and routing, conduit, cable tray and trunking layouts, lighting and power circuit diagrams, SLDs
  • Power Distribution System Design — distribution boards, LT panel design, protective devices (MCB, MCCB, ACB, VCB, RCCB, RCBO), backup power systems (ATS, AMF, UPS)
  • Transformers, Generators, Earthing & Lightning Protection — transformer and generator selection basics, earthing systems and design, lightning protection principles, air terminals and down conductors
  • ELV & Building Services Integration — fire alarm systems, structured cabling, CCTV, access control, BMS, energy monitoring, public address and nurse call systems

  • Autodesk Revit Electrical — project setup and BIM fundamentals, lighting system modelling and circuiting, power distribution systems and equipment placement, panel board configuration and panel schedules
  • Containment Modelling — cable tray and conduit routing, wiring layouts and containment systems
  • Revit Families & Schedules — family creation, electrical quantity take-offs and schedules
  • Documentation — coordinated electrical documentation and shop drawings used during project execution
  • Navisworks Manage — linking architectural and structural BIM models, federated coordination models, clash detection, model review and issue tracking
  • Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) — cloud collaboration, document management, model coordination and review workflows

Project Work

You work across a live commercial electrical design project and two international electrical BIM projects, building a portfolio that spans design calculations through to coordinated deliverables.
